General information

The National Confederation of labour achieved the 6 hour day in the Andalusian countryside back in 1936. Some years earlier CNT had also succeeded in implementing labour rights such as 40 hour labour week, setting of a retirement age, elimination of child labour and claimed the rights of female workers.

We now present you a documentary on the entire history of this union from its foundation in 1910 until today narrated by the very protagonists of the story. It is now time to give voice and power to disseminate their experiences: It is part of our history; still unknown to so many, and yet a part so important to be familiarized with now more than ever.

For this reason we ask for your help to distribute and disseminate this document so that it can reach the largest possible audience. This film shows 100 years of struggle. And yet we are beginning the 21st century with more questions than answers. Is all lost? And if not, what needs to be done?

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

The Living Memory Project began back in 2009 on the 70th anniversary of the end of the Spanish Civil War with the recording of the event, organized in Paris to the Spanish Exiles and the victims of the Nazi extermination camp of Mauthausen. Our goal thereafter focused on collecting the greatest possible number of testimonies related to the history of Spanish anarcho-syndicalism. As part of the celebrations of 100 years of CNT we set up the project, the union decided to fund it and we set off . We travelled 12,000 km visiting three countries relying on the logistical support of CNT and selfless work of their members as well as partners Malicious Films GuerrillART. This is the result:

-80 hours worth of records

-300 hours worth of testimony in timing and transcription meant for reference purposes at the Anselmo Lorenzo Foundation

-0 actors

Why this is important

Once the editing phase of Memoria Viva is closed, our primary aim will be dissemination of the documentary, because of the value of the history itself, intending to make the most out of historiographic testimonies that compose this documentary.

We need funding to compete and participate in festivals, be present in cinemas and media, both in Spain and internationally. Our purpose is also to self-manage the distribution of the film in different digital media formats. Volunteer work will allow us to time and close up the transcription of the testimonies, some of which are crucial to understand the history in a sense broader than available literature presents us.

The benefits obtained with the distribution and sale of Living Memory will be allocated to cover production costs that have been assumed by CNT, the only union in Spain that doesn’t receive subsidies from the state.

Therefore, this project reaches out to those who are motivated to support our efforts to recover collective memory. It also aims those who feel the need to make the message of so many anonymous voices to become visible.

Team and experience

Living Memory has been selected for DocEspaña section of the Valladolid International Film Week SEMINCI. Oct. 21st will be at the same time the international premiere of the documentary. GuerrillART has worked in different projects related to communication, new technologies and social action. BBBFarming is just one example: BBBFarming promotes agro-ecology and food sovereignty. This Project was successfully funded in goteo.org march 2013. Right now it supplies media coverage to 39 agro-ecological production projects (see bbbfarming.net/comunidad). Along with that Project GerrillaART members have developed Living Memory.

GuerrillART actively promotes Actyva co-op, an all-round co-op type based in Extremadura which is succeeding in creating a network developing an alternative, fraternal and people oriented economy.

A team of 18 professionals of the multimedia branch has made Living Memory possible and has invested some 5000 hours of volunteer work in the realization of this project.
