What you are probably thinking right now is “what the hell are these two doing starting up a café with what’s going on in the economy?” The situation is not easy and nor is the government very supportive in launching projects made by young people that want to jump-start a small business. But that’s what we´ve got. It has been the willingness and the motivation to keep on with the project we truly believe in that made us leave aside all the obstacles. And believe us, there have been plenty of.
But we don´t want to use this platform for complaining and for overwhelming you with our worries. What we want you to know is that we have been working for more than one year and a half on the project of our lives, devoting all our resources to building our dream: a cycling café & workplace in the center of Madrid. And the truth be told, we never thought it would take so much time and economical effort.
However, another true thing is that neither could we dream of the day when we would be here, in your screens, presenting this project that will see the light in only a couple of weeks and asking a small contribution so that, with the help of all of you, we managed to start up something that we hope you enjoy as much (or more) as we do.
And now, down to business:
La Bicicleta Café & Workplace (www.labicicletacafe.com/) originates in the passion for bicycles, art and coffee in equal parts. And from there comes our intention to be a place with personality, concept and soul.
We want to be a meeting point for cycling enthusiasts, for the lovers of good coffee and a place with a cozy atmosphere that´s perfect as much for reading as for studying or working on your laptop. And, of course, for grabbing a drink with your friends.
Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign
Cycling Café?
One of the goals that excites us the most is becoming a meeting point for people with affection for bicycles. If you are one of them, you will definitely enjoy the opportunity to pump up your tires, to fix a flat tube or to use the tools available in the DIY bike corner. In our shelves you will find bicycle-related literature and will be invited to attend various events, workshops and lectures.
And, needless to say, you will be able to take a delicious coffee prepared by an expert barista.
Workplace?
More and more people choose to use the most diverse areas as workplace outside an office or a house. For them we want to have a set of services that adapt to their needs. Beyond the free Wi-Fi (naturally) we are talking about having accessible plugs, chargers, lockable drawers that will allow you to move around the place not worrying about leaving your computer unattended… small, but important details.
Art gallery?
Urban art, graffiti and street art were our inevitable companions while growing up and we have witnessed its evolution since our very childhood. Our professional profile is closely related to the world of graphic design and illustration. Therefore, we want to offer a place for exhibiting and displaying works of various artists representing different fields and forms of artistic expression. However, we will pay special attention to everything closely related to the world of cycling and urban culture.
Why this is important
We address all of those having awareness, interest and curiosity in our favorite topics: coffee, bicycles and urban art and illustration.
And certainly all of those in search for a cozy, high-quality place in Madrid, to come over alone or with company.
Goals of the crowdfunding campaign
We expect to set aside the money collected via crowdfunding for the coffee machine and for the grinder. We aspire to have La Marzocco GB5 coffee maker together with the Mazzer Super Jolly grinder, one of the best combinations on the market right now.
In order for you to enjoy one of the best coffees in Madrid, not only is good raw material (and we have that) or a good training (as we have that) needed, but also the main work tool, which is indispensable for the preparation of always-perfect cups of coffee.
Team and experience
We are two partners, very much linked to the world of urban bicycle (that is our means of transport around the city); we are coffee lovers holding a barista certificate and having an unquenchable thirst for learning new things from this fascinating world.
In future, there will be more people to support and work with us; to them we will transmit our vision and passion for doing things well.
