World Environment Day

World Environment Day

Today, we celebrate the World Environment Day. This year's theme is “air pollution”, a serious problem that causes more than 400,000 deaths in Europe every year according to WHO (although a recent study estimates the deaths to be double –European Heart Journal-).

Days like this are a good chance to give visibility and make us reflect on the problems on the environment derived from our actions.

But there are also things to celebrate because the beginning of June is bringing hopeful news!

On 1st June, the production, import, sale and use of plastic bags have been banned in Tanzania. Hongera!

In addition, last Monday a global movement started to boycott food and drink in plastic packaging during a week.

And the fact that in a few days we have raised more than 30% of our minimum goal to continue working on Njombe Beyond, makes us feel full of hope and be willing to continue working for a safe environment and to ensure that each 5th of June there is more and more to celebrate and less to be sorry about.
