General information

We want to create an associative and participatorive grocery with workshops on self-production of food and household products.

The Drogheria will be an open space involving proximity between beneficiaries and producers. It will offer unpackaged quality products at an affordable price, or exchangeable with non-market means.

The idea is to recreate proximity relationship and offer a welcoming place, not only for shopping but also to discuss and exchange about products and the life of the neighborhood.

There will be dry and fresh products from friendly growing and short circuits.

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign

Drogheria grocery store will be a meeting place, open to all, where autonomy is promoted by free service. Each beneficiary weighs and calculates himself the product's price. The reception by the crew of En Chantier will focus attention to the link between consumers and producers (story of the products, craftsmanship, provenance , etc ...).

Located in an area with a strong cultural diversity, the desire is to welcome and build alternative supply channels for basic products used by different food cultures.

We would also offer household products manufacturing facilities, food like couscous, pasta, biscuits, fermented products (yogurt and sauerkraut etc); to learn and share traditional know-how and develop handicrafts in the kitchen and elsewhere.

Each beneficiary Member will be invited to invest based on his time or his skills in Drogheria project. It will be proposed to hold a permanence for a basket of products.

All products will be sent in a jumble, each participant will be invited to bring their containers with no minimum purchase. This with the aim of reducing waste.

A waste reduction approach is engaged with the side project of La Cantine: unsold products can be used to make restaurant's menus.

Why this is important

The Drogheria grocery store will be located in the heart of Belle de Mai neighbourhood, in Marseille's 3rd district, a territory rich by its resident energy & commercial and associative activity.

Belle de mai district don't have spaces and shops promoting healthy, balanced diet food. Only a few stores sell products from organic farming, but at a high cost.

Its population, resulting mostly from immigration, is often confronted with health problems related to overweight or obesity.

This is due in part to a lack of financial means and information from the families. En Chantier proposes fun and practice activities, to raise awareness in order to allow families to find simple and cheap solutions. The grocery Drogheria allow access to good products at a fair price.

In respect of the environment, it will guarantee the reduction of waste and the fight against waste.

Team and experience

Initiated in 2013, the restaurant La Cantine du Midi is the origin of the Drogheria project. It welcomes everyday between 3 and 5 volunteers for cooking, sharing their expertise and experience around food. Around thirty members come eat there every afternoon.

The idea of a ​​grocery with baskets of loose (but quality) products came thereafter. A weekly market was opened in the premises of La Cantine in order to offer an alternative shopping to residents of Belle de Mai district, where many small businesses are closing. Given the success of the market, and the customers' demand to access to it everyday, we decided to open a dedicated space, with more products.

The aim is also to create synergies with the supply of la Cantine du Midi.

The crew of En Chantier is made of people with a passion for quality food, and cultural sharing that develops around food. Each team member has the desire to share the products of their region and actively participates in the project "food carpooling": a part of the goods is transported by car by anyone wishing to discover new producers.
