<< Construction of a Creation Space integrated into the landscape and the life of the inhabitants of the region, offering activities and resources combining local wisdom with artistic and sociocultural production. >>
Here in Spain, in a corner of La Mancha and surrounded by the biggest salt marsh in Europe a group of people are working together on a new project, where thoughts and culture will flourish. A special space for creativity in a very special setting. An ecological building, integrated with the natural environment. A place for artistic residences and workshops far away from the daily grind. 220m square of ecologically integrated construction surrounded by 15000 square metres of natural environment, open for participation and learning, in an area eager for initiatives of this kind.
We will be told that we are dreamers in a time of despair. Yes, we are.
But dreams become reality.
This is our project.
Our average reality is made, we lack the other half to complete a common dream.
Can you help us get it?
Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign
More a Mora is a Creation Space located in a natural environment in a corner of La Mancha. The project includes two main aspects, a production and artistic residence space and a place of exhibition, as well as other activities of meeting, thinking, training and research, always taking into account the context where it is located.
Its greatest strengths are the location and the team that makes up the project plus all the people that will get involved in the project through the different residences and activities.
More to Mora is in an absolutely privileged place, a landscape of La Mancha where the look is lost and the silence gives rise to the thought. A space with unbeatable conditions for concentration and where the landscape is a latent and continuous protagonist that cradles the process of creation. It is surrounded by several villages that still preserve the artisan traditions that we want to recover, along with young artists who have few opportunities to enjoy and exercise their creativity..
On the other hand, the group of people involved in the project (coming from different areas and with a considerable professional experience) has the strength to start a dream like this; to bring it into being and to provide it with content and sense, while at the same time remaining aware of all that the place and its people can contribute and keeping that feedback as an important goal.
More a Mora is launching an international project with a clear desire for cultural exchange in a place that lacks initiatives of this kind. A project for both visitors and locals.
Why this is important
As a result of growing awareness of green issues and the urgent need for action, there has been an increase in artistic projects and cultural sites that take nature as both a conceptual and material point of departure. More and more spaces are specialized in projects that combine nature and art, places where creativity feeds from the natural context. These projects mean to raise awareness of the environment and the challenges it faces. Some of the initiators of the project have worked on political and social aspects of environmentalism. When we discovered the place where More a Mora is located, we understood at once that this was the place to develop a project that combines this previous experience of artistic work, social and natural environment, offering, at the same time, an incredible opportunity, both to ourselves and others, whether these are artists, cultural agents or simply interested people, to develop their work in a privileged natural place and in a social context of small populations with little cultural movement. An unbeatable feedback, from the experience of those who come, in exchange for what these populations and this natural environment offer the visitor.
More Mora is aimed at both artists and cultural agents and people who work with art and the environment, as well as any individual who wishes to be part of the activities that will be offered and that will go beyond the built space. More to Mora exists beyond the space where it is located; More a Mora is a cultural project that will extend its work to the adjacent populations and will be nourished by national and international projects.
Goals of the crowdfunding campaign
We have completed the main phase of the construction of a space designed under the parameters of sustainable architecture and which will provide 220m² of space for creation plus the natural environment, of which More Mora owns 15,000m² (next to the immense space that surrounds us).
The main structure is built and soon we will begin the next phase of works. Reaching the minimum funding objective we can finish the construction of the space and reaching the optimum objective, in a next phase, we will be able to equip it with the minimum conditions for its use.
After a long professional career in the field of performing arts, intercalating large format projects with smaller and self-managed ones, Cristián Weidmann decides to buy a piece of land in a place surrounded by nature to carry out a joint project together with a group of artists , architects and people from other fields with whom he has been collaborating in different artistic projects or who share with him the affinity to embark on a dream of this kind.
There are many factors coming together to form the foundations and the beginning of the road from More to Mora. The design and construction of an integrated space in the natural environment where it is located and built according to the principles of ecological architecture. The comfort of a place made to dialogue with nature and to be surrounded by concentration and silence and, at the same time, with the versatility of welcoming people from very different fields and disciplines. Together with the desire that this space becomes a center of creation and reflection, but also in habitat that welcomes the one who develops an activity there.
In terms of activities: the social and political nature, interaction with the environment and the local (including nearby populations) and research, as fundamental principles in the proposals to be made. Artistic practices, but also of body (like yoga) or related to the environment (like ecological construction).
Taking advantage of this in turn to extend this interaction from the local to the international, through the contacts and collaborations that different members of the team have in different countries.
The underlying principles of the activities we propose are social and investigative, in our interaction with the environment and with nearby residents. We will practise the arts, as well as physical activities (such as yoga) or activities related to thinking or to the environment, such as green building projects.
We will take advantage of the opportunity to extend this interaction from the local to the international, through the contacts and collaborations that different members of the team have in different countries.
A project that works on attention, on listening and on the desire that whoever comes to More to Mora finds a place that helps him to concentrate but that at the same time connects him with what surrounds him, the people and the place . And that over time collects the seeds of what is produced there. A place, far from the city, where sharing concerns and deepen them. A "togetherness" and permanence project.
The initiating and the collaborating team is formed by a group of people that includes the architects specialized in ecological architecture Mercedes Peña and Aitor, the structuralist and photographer Hani Jaber Ávila, Cristián Weidmann (artist, set designer, welder / builder in More a Mora), Sara Serrano (artist, mediaturg, production), Elena Cuevas (psychologist, designer / media), Antonio Calvo (artist, welder / builder in More a Mora), Selu Herraiz (artist, educator, documentation), Vicente Cerdán (Film director and video editor), Javier Cuevas (artist and performing arts curator), Brigida Molina (actress, artist), Lara Andreu (psychologist), Juan Luis López (radio presenter, sports educator), Rocío Bernal (actress, theater director), Pepe Galera (actor, theater director), Thelma Stone (translator and interpreter English), Raffaella Menchetti (artist, video/audio engineer, translator and interpreter Italian), Clara Cirera (actrees & director, translator and interpreter French) and Juergen Hoerstmannand (Youth and Culture activities coordinator, translator and interpreter German). In addition to new members who are eventually joining the team.
In terms of resources and infrastructure, the space has 220m² built area. Of this, 160 of them offer a technically equipped diaphanous space for performing artists and other projects. And a second space of 80m² for meeting place/ office, lodging and kitchen. In addition to 15000m² of natural environment where to plant and to realise activities outdoors. And, above all, a 360-degree horizon where we can let the gaze get lost while silence invades our ears.
