Caxico, a forrest school in Ulle, in the Aragonese Pyrenees, is entering its fourth year and the refuge needs a new roof (among other improvements) – it leaks!
The project started with a group of families looking to offer their children an education for the ages 2 to 6 outside of the traditional classroom and in constant contact with and conciousness of the natural environment around us and which we form a part of.
The children spend the vast majority of their time in the forrest, but when there is extremely bad weather and at lunch time they enter the refuge. It is important that it is a space in good condition for their development, and after 3 years we hope to advance some key improvements to the refuge – fix the roof to avoid leaks, construct a composting toilet outside, and a porch for the entrance.
We are super grateful for any contribution you can offer to make a secure and beautiful space for "the mochuelis" (the children) in the forrest school!

Main features and goals of the crowdfunding campaign
The objective of our crowdfunding campaign is to raise the funds necessary to repair the refuge. Here are the main tasks:
Fix the leaky roof or replace the roof entirely
Insulate the roof
Replace the entrance door to avoid mice getting in and providing more light to the interior
Add a porch at the entrance
Add a composting toilet in the porch area
Add a floor for the porch
Add gutters to collect water from the roof for watering the garden
Our initial objective is to raise 2,000 euros to achieve the most basic repairs for the roof. Ideally we will raise 7,000 euros to do a more thorough job and include the new additions.
With your contribution you are helping the children to be able to learn at their own rhythm, in a natural and healthy environment.
Why this is important
Caxico, the forrest school is Ulle, is a project created for and by families in the area. Our primary objective is to provide a quality education to our children and let them experience and grow a love of nature. This campaign is for anyone who wants to support this effort to raise happy children and responsible adults.
The repairs will be implemented by the families of the association with the most sustainable materials possible.
The repairs are a project of all the families of the association, but we'd like to also introduce our pedagagical team:
Cristina, Tere, y Álvaro are the "acompañantes" (adults who accompany) the children. Each has their their own background and training that are highly complementary to offer a respectful, caring, safe education for the "mochuelies" (the children). Tere is a psychopedagog, special education teacher, and specialist in outdoor education. Cristina es a social educator, camp counselor, and forrest bath guide. Álvaro is an engineer and mountain guide.
That team is supported by the community of 15 families that form the Association. Mothers and fathers committed to the education of their children and care for nature. The families take charge of many of the tasks of the association, including the crowdfunding campaign.
